Maybe you don't need to upgrade from Oracle Developer 6i.

Hi,

One friend told me in an Oracle presentation this year 2006 in Bolivia, one person asked if they could use Oracle Developer 6i on Oracle 10g, and the presenter said they couldn't, I regret the fact I decided not to go there.

You can work on Oracle Developer 6i and Oracle 10g, but you have to apply the last patch (currently patch 18).

In the same way one of the most important reasons to migrate to Oracle 9i an up is to get zer0 installation, and is false you don't need to upgrade from Oracle Developer 6i to get a zero installation.

On windows you install the developer 6i and all the components you like, plus the patch, then you copy the directory wherever you want, and map to a bat file all the variables created on the regedit's Developer home.

This works for runtime, this works for Development and even for other uses like Forms api using C

(for more information http://www.oracleboliviaspecialists.com/Papers/DeveloperTips.doc) .

That is the reason because I suggest you to think carefully if you really need to migrate from Oracle Developer 6i to Oracle Developer 9i and up, maybe you don't need it.

One last reason is the fact there had been few improvements, Oracle had bet on Java, better you start to think in migrating Oracle Forms to Java Developer, you don't need to migrate your reports initially, you can call Oracle Reports from Java too.

Note.

In order to allow existing customers to upgrade their applications to Oracle9i Forms, Oracle Forms 6i will be supported until January 1st, 2005 (along with Oracle Reports 6i) with Extended Assistance Support until January 1st, 2008.

Greetings.
